Someone recommended this place to us and we absolutely loved it. As soon as you walk in, someone at the door tells you where to stand inside, it’s busy and a bit chaotic, but that’s part of the charm. The staff are not overly friendly or trying to please tourists, which actually makes it feel more authentic. At one point they forgot to bring one of the items we ordered, but it also wasn’t on the bill, so no harm…
In the heart of Barceloneta, Can Paixano—simply “La Xampanyeria” to locals—remains a timeless Barcelona ritual: shoulder-to-shoulder conviviality, no-nonsense décor, and house cava poured with unwavering pride since 1969. Come for the effervescent Berenguer Ramon bubbles and stay for the honest bocadillos and tapas that make this place feel like a living postcard of the city’s maritime soul—best visited early if you prefer your sparkle with a little breathing room.
Visitor impressions
Very nice cava bar for their house-made cava — crisp, perfectly balanced, and dangerously easy to drink (I still dream about it!). We tried the croquettes and a sandwich, both delicious. Service is very fast, the place is full of locals, and you eat standing up like a true local. What a hidden gem! Highly recommended!
Very authentic tapas & cava bar, standing room only. Was buzzing on a Friday afternoon but managed to find a space. Would definitely recommend and come back - €11 for a bottle of cava, can’t go wrong, loved it
