Demel am Kohlmarkt ist Wiener Süßkultur in Reinform – eine k.u.k. Institution seit 1786, deren Vitrinen und Salons bis heute den leisen Glanz der Ringstraßenzeit bewahren. Zwischen handgezogenen Pralinen und klassischem Strudel erlebt man hier, wie sehr in Wien Geschmack, Geschichte und Inszenierung zusammengehören. Da keine Reservierungen möglich sind, lohnt sich ein Besuch zu randständigen Zeiten – der Moment im Obergeschoss fühlt sich dann besonders unaufgeregt und zeitlos an.
We visited Demel, because we were curious about the famous dessert, kaiserschmarrn. There was a short line for takeaway, window service. We opted to take an outdoor table. We were seated after 10 minutes. While we enjoyed our people watching, it took 45 minutes before our order was taken, then another 30 minutes for our two drinks and one order of kaiserschmarrn to arrive. we ended up here by chance, we were immediately intrigued by the smell and the long line. the line to get in was extremely long, we opted for take away (there was always a line but much faster). the pancakes is as good as it is simple and this makes it pleasant and tasty. it was a really nice experience, we will definitely try it again when we return to vienna
